Summer, it’s that really pretty time of the year where you just sit back and relax. You can sunbath, swim, and enjoy ice cream. Some days, it’s almost unbearable to go outside. If you have fair skin, then you can either carry sunblock around constantly or face the consequences of staying in the sun too long. That minor problem aside, the summer is pretty sweet.

The electricity bills in the summer, unfortunately, are not. We’ve all been there. You’re in a good mood and you just sit back and relax. Oh look! There’s the mail! And so, you go and take it personally from the mail man with a smile on your face. On such a lovely day, how could it be ruined?

Well, then you happen to open that bill…YIKES!

It doesn’t matter if you’re a horror movie aficionado, when you see that you have a high electricity bill, a guy or gal can’t help but be frightened! Sometimes it can be so bad that you’ll end up needed to work overtime just to cover the extra expenses that month. But what can you do to get lower utility bills?

Well, first of all, you need to save your electricity. That’s right. One of the best ways to get lower utility bills is to lower your electricity intake.

So what can you do?

First of all, use your windows and fans. Air conditioning is grand, but it’s also not all that electricity efficient. Not to mention that if your house is well insulated, you’re often times just circulating around old air…

The solution is to air out your house. Not only will it cool things down, but it’s also a lot healthier for you and your family if you air out your house at least once a week. In the summer, it’s possible to do this even more thanks to the warm weather. If you stick a fan in the window, it has a similar effect to an air conditioner, although not quite as strong.

Another method is to unplug anything that you don’t need for the night. If you need a humidifier, you can leave that, but if you have a lamp, unplug it. Make sure that you have switched it off before hand. This also applies to several other appliances.

However, some things have hook ups that aren’t easily unconnected. You can only do so much as far as those are concerned. These are usually large appliances like washers and dryers. They usually use third-phase electricity.

But say that you weren’t quite getting the results you wanted. You were still having power surges, still having issues with getting lower utility bills and saving electricity, you may want to try another method.

You may not know this, but you’re paying for electricity you don’t use. This isn’t to say that you’re secretly making a donation to some unknown organization to keep their power running. That’s not the case at all. As a matter of fact, no one uses this power.

You can now purchase a system that works for not only single phase but also third phase appliances. What does it do? Well, it enables you to store that extra electricity. That’s right—it’s like having a tiny little safe that you use to store your own electricity. It isn’t big or flashy, but it does its job and it saves you electricity! Then, you don’t have to use quite as much and voila! You have your lower utility bills!
